La retratista, 1991

The Photographer, 1991
Object, 38 x 34 x 30 cm

How do you like to be introduced, as an artist or a poet?

I am a poet. Artist nowadays is synonymous with money and speculation. Poets are the last manifestation of welfare. They don’t make money like painters, so they lead fairer lives.

Is the word future at odds with poetry?

Not at all. But poets need to evolve. All my life I’ve done poetry according to the literary code, but now I’m trying to adapt to the new technologies: not the very advanced ones, the semi-advanced, like visual poems and object poems, which allow poets to express themselves in another code.

What would your motto be?

Tradition must be continued, not repeated.
