Grans llavis, 1974
Big Lips, 1974
Object,
60 x 34 x 34 cm
Francesc Torres Monsó was a central figure in the evolution of sculpture in Catalonia over the last fifty years. With a classical and academic education, he always maintained an ironic and critical attitude, and was attentive to the events of his own time and place. Grans llavis is one of his works from the seventies in which the artist reproduces fragments of the human body on a large scale, using casting techniques and introducing new materials. In this way, materials such as plastic or polyester resin allowed him to create multiples cheaply, in line with Pop art’s questioning of the uniqueness of the work of art.
