The four multimedia installations that MACBA presented at the exhibition Off-Sonic prioritised the sound generated by electricity as an essential part of their artistic approach.

Carsten Höller worked from the perspective of this sound as a musical composition; the collective Unidad Específica de Distribución (U.E.D.) saw it as a matheme of communicative social structures; Bill Vorn as an autonomous machinic expression; and Tommi Grönlund & Petteri Nisunen as an element that can transform the perception of architecture.

All four projects revealed the engineering or technological mechanism that gave meaning to the works. As such, the industrial tools used to produce images, texts and sounds took on a personality of their own.
