From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi: Works from the MACBA Art Collection in Dialogue with the Emirates
The exhibition From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi: Works from the MACBA Art Collection in Dialogue with the Emirates features over 70 works from the Museum’s Collection together with around twenty works by artists from the United Arab Emirates. Co-curated by Ferran Barenblit, director of MACBA, and Nasser Abdullah, president of the Emirates Fine Arts Society, it will open on 1 February in Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi’s cultural district, and close on 17 March. It will include parallel activities and an intense education programme.
From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi is organised in three sections that examine the role of art in contemporaneity. The first section focuses on what defines us as humans: who we are, how we develop, how we perceive the world. The second asks what defines us as political subjects: our relationship with the social and natural environment. In the third and last section, art reflects upon itself: its capacity for transmitting knowledge; its desire to overcome its function as a representation of reality and the diversity of responses that this generates; and the creation of art’s own history.
