Since 2004, the MACBA has been organising workshops in collaboration with the Miquel Tarradell Secondary School and the Shared Schooling Unit of the Casal dels Infants del Raval, aimed at students from both of these educational institutions, and directed by the art therapist, psychotherapist and anthropologist Eva Marxen. The workshops are imparted at the two educational centres, for the duration of one academic year. To guarantee their effectiveness, the groups must remain very small (four to five students).

The workshops use art as a method for tackling the behavioural and social problems of participating students in an indirect and symbolic way. The idea is to offer a safe, regular, stable space for empathetic listening, in which participants can use artistic expression as a means to move from action to symbolization and reflection. Materials from the basic plastic arts are used, in a process that is structured by techniques and relatively free in terms of subject matter. The emphasis is more on the creative process and its possible obstacles, rather than the finished works.
