María Teresa Hincapié. If this were a beginning of infinity is the first exhibition dedicated to the Colombian artist María Teresa Hincapié (1954-2008), a key figure in the development of performance and body practices during the decades of the 1980s and 1990s. Specialising in what could be called the “poetics of everyday life”, her practice oscillates between the exploration of daily life, creation in motion, the search for mysticism and the idea of creating community.

This exhibition presents an extensive selection of María Teresa Hincapié’s works: photographs, videos, written documentation, slides and other graphic testimonials that left their mark on her performances. The exhibition also includes works authored by Alejandro Restrepo to be interpreted by Hincapié, as well as three projects specifically commissioned for this show from the artists María José Arjona and Coco Fusco, and the Mapa Teatro collective.

Visit led by Claudia Segura Campins, co-curator of the exhibition.
