The second biennial Future Visions event proposes an international seminar of reflection on the diverse models and different concepts and projects that underlie the seemingly commonplace formula of the contemporary art biennial or thematic event, its reason for being, its relevance and its future projection.
As a means of approaching this issue, various lines of analysis have been drawn together: the historical dimension, or old formulas versus new proposals; the role of the independent curator, the artist-based biennial, the selection criteria —that is to say, biennial and canon— and finally a reflection on the role of artists from the Spanish state in the international arena.
