Concert Series cooordinated by Aurelio Santos

After WWII, Jazz emerged in North America as a major cultural force, conquering global hegemony and as the Art that truly represented the rupture of antiquated cultural divides between pop culture and high-end avant garde. Since then, Jazz has constantly crossed its own borders and has been in a perpetual state of hybridization and mutation; so much so that the question of its true identity is as recurring as it is elusive.

In the past few years a few new musical styles have emerged from this city, creating what we know as the "sonido Barcelona." The "sonido Barcelona" is one of hybridization, combining genres such as reggae, funk, hip-hop, rock, etc. This results in the presence and circulation of a wide variety of artists in the city and, in definition, goes far beyond a "school." Despite its label as the "sonido Barcelona," it is actually far more global than local, proposing an audio geography that cannot itself be geographically placed.

Seven musicians active in the local scene will participate in this series of three concerts in which the artists will perform in three different combos, ever aware of each member's diverse backgrounds and the musical styles they have adopted. This musical journey will visit Jazz, Groove, Funk and the most experimental electronica music without ever stopping at any of them, and each musician will play a fantastic solo.

In this way, we hope to question the local scene as well as the state of Jazz when faced with its many deaths foretold and its subsequent resurrections and reincarnations.
