Understanding the implications of the conditions imposed by the Anthropocene period in the field of epistemology and ethics remains one of the key issues of the social and human sciences of our time, as well as offering new possibilities for contemporary artistic and cultural production. Referencing the geo-ecosophical neo-materialism of Bateson, Deleuze, Guattari and Braidotti, the First International Symposium of Mutating Ecologies in Contemporary Art aims to deepen the notion of ‘expanded ecologies’ in contemporary artistic, cultural and curatorial practices. In particular, we will focus on their capacity to provide various ways for understanding, interrogating and adapting our relationship to the earth through visual, sensual and discursive strategies and methodologies, and for experimenting beyond disciplinary confinements in order to create a new post-human ethic and politics.
