This programme bears witness to the histories of our musical cultures, with a special emphasis on their political and social aspects; in other words, taking into account not only artistic forms but also the new alternative life-styles and the contexts in which they belong. Beginning with some of the more obscure experimental pop of the sixties, by way of the process which turned rock into the hegemonic form and taking in the appearance of phenomena such as punk and the disco culture of the seventies, the programme ranges from the eclipse of the utopian visions of the sixties, the impact of May ‘68 and the crisis of the welfare state of the seventies through to the present situation in which the habits of mass-consumption have come to constitute the central cultural category and the practices of resistance and protest are reflected in new forms of construction of subjectivity, as in the case of techno, rave, acid house and club culture.
