This project establishes ways to approach art works for the youth that visit the museum. Following the model of critical rethinking that MACBA offers in all of its projects, the point of departure for Dialogues related to the Collection is not to be found in the works themselves but rather in distinct thematic itineraries that permit debate as to what takes place in the Museum. Some of the themes that will be dealt with relating to MACBA's Collection include youth culture and urban life, art and politics, new technologies as well as the questioning of the very concept of art and the social function of the museum. In this manner, MACBA's holdings will serve to facilitate opinion and disagreement in order to arrive at a demythified reading of contemporary artistic production that will allow youth—just as much as other members of the community—to establish connections with their own concerns and realities. These itineraries will facilitate a greater freedom of thought and action: that is, the names, labels and chronology that are proper to a more academic vision of art will be replaced by other working dynamics based on exchange with students and on a bidirectional relation between artistic practice and the everyday reality of adolescents.
