Concert programme

Linked to the destructive vanquishing of pictorial art and to a certain transcendent, late-Romantic representations of infinitude, monochromatic paintings been instrumental in bringing about substantial changes since the late nineteenth century. Monochrome is neither a style nor a movement, but rather a Weltanschauung, a cosmovision that artists can understand and use as they see fit. Based on this plurality and ambivalence, the MACBA presents the work of three artists who interpret monochromy in the context of live audiovisual creation, exploring the relationship between sound and image through a range of perspectives and methodologies. The guest artists are Grischa Lichtenberger, Theo Burt and Ulf Langheinrich. All three will be performing in the city for the first time as part of this year's Audiopantalla MACBA, a series of audiovisual concerts organised for the second consecutive year in the framework of the Grec Festival of Barcelona.

Programme

Fridays July 8, 15 and 22 at 9 pm

Friday July 8
Grischa Lichtenberger

Grischa Lichtenberger is one of the latest additions to the Raster- Noton catalogue. In an attempt to reconcile the abstract nature of his compositions with the metaphorical and linguistic meanings of his pictorial and photographic works, Lichtenberger has come up with his own personal methodology for live performances, based on reprocessing a light source that responds to variations in sounds. The result is a spectacular audiovisual show, an imposing triptych that changes in parallel to Lichtenberger's raw, rhythmic music. http://www.grischa-lichtenberger.com/

Friday July 15
Theo Burt

Theo Burt creates perceptual, semantic connections between images and sounds. In his works, processes become visible and audible and as such emphasise the systematic manipulation of the structures and events that operate within each piece. In Colour Projections he sets up precise correlations between sound events and shapes, while in Processes for Control he chooses to avoid immediate, synchronic, "synaesthetic" correlations, and encourage a more active, analytic response in which viewers can identify the mechanisms that generate the sounds and images. http://www.theoburt.com/

Friday July 22
Ulf Langheinrich

Ulf Langheinrich works in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, installation, video and live sound creation. His audiovisual works are based on a pictorial approach that he applies to working simultaneously with image and sound. The resulting moving "sound paintings", based on large monochromatic compositions of pure colour and texture, change slowly and sweep viewers into a state of deep sensory immersion. Langheinrich will present a piece he has created specifically for this performance, based on four earlier productions: Ku, Soil, OSC and Drift. http://ulflangheinrich.com/
