As part of their ongoing collaboration, the second concert of the Festival LEM at MACBA is dedicated to Aida Nadeem, a composer, vocalist and instrumentalist born in Baghdad and currently living in Scandinavia. Her music is influenced by the sound tradition of Iraq and Turkmenistan and contemporary Arab poetry, and is expressed through the unique instrumental combination of bassoon, voice and electronics. With this magic, Nadeem captivates and enchants, while her atmospheric and enigmatic music trespasses geographic and cultural borders.

Organised by Gràcia Territori Sonor.

Aida Nadeem was a bassoon player for the Iraqi Symphony Orchestra. She has explored avant-garde music and the rhythms of Baghdad’s street musicians. The New York press has defined her as ‘the Oriental Laurie Anderson’. She has received prizes for her music for the cinema. In 2007 she was nominated for the BBC Awards for her album Out of Baghdad, and last year her new album Beyond Destruction came third in the World Music Charts Europe. We are honoured to present her at LEM.
