The work of Juan Uslé (Santander, 1954) draws on a long expressive pictorial tradition that emerged with the first avant-gardes in the early twentieth century, but it is also influenced by today’s complex visual culture (photography, film, television). Uslé’s approaches abstract painting through an intuitive vision that transgresses the cultural categories that condition contemporary aesthetic cannons.

In 1987, Uslé left Santander and settled in New York, where he began developing a discourse that questions the systems of perception of contemporary culture.
The title of the exhibition, Broken Eye, was chosen by the artist as a metaphor to express the decline of human perception due to the inflationary flood of images, which only allow us to see the world in a fragmented, broken way.
The exhibition included a selection of twenty of his recent works in a variety of formats.
