L´escultura. Creacions paral·leles

This exhibition put the spotlight on the enormous importance of the parallel media that support a sculptor’s work.

Metaphors of the real included a series of large drawings by sculptors (deliberately excluding sketches and design drawings) and a selection of structures, images and the odd concept-object that played a germinal role in the sculptural conception of the participating artists: Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Juan Muñoz, Miquel Navarro, Claes Oldenburg and Jaume Plensa.

Against the widespread tendency to interpret a sculptor’s drawings as a transitory stage, this exhibition showed that it had its own expressive power and was an important means for the free exploration of the sculptural concept; it had to be considered as a parallel practice, an experimental territory that supplements sculpture and helps it to move forward.
