Daniela Ortiz and Xose Quiroga read the slave-based colonial past of Barcelona through its statues, commemorative plaques and buildings. This series of photographs presents some monuments in memory of singular personalities who, although they played major roles in the history of slavery, are still publicly honoured today such as Joan Güell i Ferrer, Josep Xifré i Casas, Valeriano Weyler, General Joan Prim i Prats and Christopher Columbus himself. The series also includes buildings of institutions that financed and were the driving force behind colonial processes, for example the Banc de Barcelona and the Cercle Hispano Ultramarí, which is now the building of the Ateneu de Barcelona.
