Nova Babilònia, 1963

‘Is it a social utopia? An urban architectural design? An artistic vision? A cultural revolution? A technological conquest? [...] Each of these issues touches on an aspect of New Babylon.’ After the Second World War, when many cities were being rebuilt, Constant looked to the sky to start working on an architectural project for a future society. His drawings depict a nomadic city: a gigantic network of spaces suspended in the air at different levels and extending around the planet. A Babylon for inhabitants freed from daily work that comes back to us in these days of dystopia.
