This course is intended to offer an introduction to contemporary art and a space in which to explore new contemporary aesthetic languages. It will offer an overview of the most recent artistic creations, focusing on the changing role of the spectator and on the notion of process in current artistic practices.

The course uses an open, flexible approach that combines theoretical sessions with observation and direct analysis of artworks at a series of cultural centres. Participants will also learn about the work of some contemporary artists whose work forms part of the MACBA Collection, and be encouraged to go back to the original sources as the basis for critical analysis. The different ways of approaching contemporary art will encourage participants to discuss and explore the key concepts that come up in shared reflections.
