La Pocha Nostra, considered the most influential Latin American performance group of the past ten years, presents as a part of Experience MACBA Corpo Insurrecto 3.0, a new production with classical and modern actions based upon bodily transformations.

In this version, conceived for MACBA in collaboration with PEI, Corpo Insurrecto 3.0 denounces, through the ritual language of the group’s actions, global culture, xenophobia, violent organised crime, the economy in free fall, and how these factors impact on the human body and our notions of identity and nationality.

As in most of his performances, Guillermo Gómez-Peña invites the public to participate in the images created by La Pocha Nostra to embody ‘the dreams and nightmares of our time’. Beginning with public participation, a new iconography is generated, causing a ‘wonderful and frenzied, but efficient form of radical democracy’. Corpo Insurrecto examines such pressing questions as: What is ‘extreme’ when everything appears to be so? Is audience participation relevant when pop culture constantly invites us to participate in meaningless consumerism, and when all technological devices ask us to speak and respond? To whom are we responding?

La Pocha Nostra is an interdisciplinary artistic organisation providing a support and interaction network for artists from different disciplines, generations and ethnic diversity. It works to erase the boundaries between art and politics, art practice and theory, and artist and viewer. La Pocha Nostra has focused intensely on collaborations across national borders, race, gender and generations as a radical act of citizen diplomacy and in order to create ephemeral communities of rebel artists.
