Kristin Oppenheim’s journey to the heart of the human voice

While experimenting with a tape recorder in the early 1990s, American artist Kristin Oppenheim realised the strength of her voice, nostalgic yet also seductive, which she soon turned into an art object. Since then, and with a minimalist language, the artist has been locking herself in a recording studio and reciting phrases from popular music or written by herself. As in her work Hey Joe, where she repeats the first verse of a song popularised by Jimi Hendrix during the Vietnam War. A true sound experience that reminds us of the strength of the voice, especially at a time when this is the thread that unites us with the world.
