The Romanesque revisited by Max de Esteban. Throbbing, conscious, ALIVE
Max de Esteban sees artistic practice as a synergy between different disciplines and languages, be they scientific, philosophical or visual. Lamb of God (2024) is the result of a collaboration with Arnaud Bayle, Julia Fossi and a group of bioethics and genetic engineering experts. The film forms part of a broader project that explores points of contact between species within the technological regime of the twenty-first century. With its biblically resonant title, it questions the place of humans when genetic engineering erases the boundaries that once defined them. How can the moral value of human life endure once the very category of species no longer exists? What new animal consciousness might emerge through human intervention? Filmed with great visual lyricism, it explores the biopolitical threshold between what we are and what we may yet create, invoking a space for encounters, harmony and permeability.
MACBA Thirty
We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for revision and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
