Acquisition of 233 works by 133 artists

The MACBA Collection has recently incorporated 233 works by 133 artists. Thanks to the support of institutions such as Barcelona City Council, the MACBA Foundation and the Generalitat de Catalunya, and to the generous donations of private individuals, a diversity of languages, genres and disciplines now enriches the Collection’s narrative and core interests.

Worthy of mention is the new acquisition of works by Benet Rossell (43 pieces reflecting the different creative moments of the artist’s career), and the presence of recently reevaluated genres such as textiles, represented by artists like Regina Giménez, Josep Grau-Garriga and Aurèlia Muñoz. A special focus is also put on the late avant-garde movements, including works by Sara Gilbert, and on artists who began their artistic production in the 1970s such as Francesc Abad and Mari Chordà.

MACBA Collection

The MACBA Collection focuses on the art of the period spanning the second half of the twentieth century to the present. Without ignoring the specificity of any moment, it centres on what the notion of artistic contemporaneity and its multiplicity of languages has meant during the last decades.
