The Creative Unconscious
The MACBA Collection participates in one of the exhibitions commemorating 100 years of the Surrealist movement. In 1924, André Breton published a manifesto in the first issue of the magazine La Révolution surréaliste. Titled Manifeste du surréalisme, it would radically change the literary and artistic scenes. Among the many exhibitions organised around this foundational moment, the Institut Für Kulturaustausch, an institution specialising in worldwide exhibitions, presents Surrealism. Worlds in Dialogue at the Kunsthalle Vogelmann, in Heilbronn, Germany. The MACBA Collection has contributed with the loans of works by two key members of the first historic Surrealism: the Catalan Joan Miró and the Romanian photographer settled in France, Gyula Halász, known as Brassai. Miró took part in the first Surrealist group exhibition held at the Galerie Pierre, Paris, in 1925. In the 1930s, Brassai published photographs of graffiti found in the streets of Paris in the mythical magazine Minotaure. The exhibition continues until 5 January 2025.
