Sustaining Life
One of the main contributions of feminist studies in the last twenty years is the concept of the ethics of care. The brainchild of the philosopher Carol Gilligan, its aim is to emphasise the value of caring relationships, traditionally attributed to women, as the backbone of social, ecological, productive and relational policies. A global, transversal, structural and profound concept affecting all aspects of life, from sustainable, ecological processes, to eco-social de-growth, decolonisation, communitarianism, food justice and the co-construction of knowledge from the network of life. Here we share some of the works in the MACBA Collection related to this new paradigm. The urgent need to care for the planet as seen by Aleix Plademunt, love as care by Iván Argote, taking care of other people by Daniela Ortiz and the new model of productive cooperativism recorded by Joaquim Jordà. You can continue to explore these works at the MACBA Collection exhibition.
MACBA Collection
The MACBA Collection focuses on the art of the period spanning the second half of the twentieth century to the present. Without ignoring the specificity of any moment, it centres on what the notion of artistic contemporaneity and its multiplicity of languages has meant during the last decades.
