MACBA, We Keep Flying. Visit our Collection on International Museum Day and Night 2026
This May, we invite you to visit the MACBA Collection on our two open-door dates. With some new proposals and the same enthusiastic spirit as the day when this exhibition first took off. What is a photo donor? What was nightlife like in Barcelona before the era of selfies? Is there a two-way communication between father and son? Who preceded the Europeans in Europe? How can we invoke our supposed ancestry? These are some of the challenging questions put forward by the works in the exhibition of our Collection. Questions that are activated by artists such as Onofre Bachiller with his collection of nocturnal self-portraits in 1990s Barcelona; Dennis Oppenheim and his sensory interaction with his son Erik; the rage of the Cold War evoked by Penck, alter ego of Ralf Winkler; and so many other flight paths crisscrossing the exhibition in so many directions. As the curators explain: ‘The dialogue we establish between the works creates a narrative between the works and their own individuality. […] The works tell us things, we hear things.’ To speak, to hear, to create stories together … Like a Dance of Starlings. MACBA Collection — Thirty Years and Infinite Ways of Being.

MACBA Thirty
We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for revision and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
