MACBA in Quimera
At the MACBA Collection, we are delighted to be part of the new Quimera project – the LGTBIQ+ Archive. Promoted by the Xarxa de Museus d’Art de Catalunya (XMAC), of which we are a member, this collective initiative focuses on queer identities and experiences. Presented as a digital platform, it brings together and facilitates the research and dissemination of works, artists, practices and publications related to sexual, gender, affective and identity diversity. The project explores imaginaries that challenge heteronormativity and originated from XMAC’s 2023 online curatorial project, Som qui som, som com som (We are who we are, we are as we are), curated by Pere Parramon and Laura Cornejo. It is diverse, cross-cutting, spans all periods and is boldly inclusive. You can discover the Quimera archive through some of the MACBA works already included in this project. These include the pioneering performance by Ocaña, recorded by French filmmaker Gérard Courant in front of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate in February 1979; Jaume Ferrete’s vocal experimentation on the performative and political dimensions of the human voice; and the joyful queer tarot created by the New York duo Ash+Chess. Explore the richness of queer imaginaries in our Collection.
MACBA Thirty
We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for revision and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
