Jordi Colomer, Artist in the Collection
Jordi Colomer, an artist in the MACBA Collection, has received the City of Barcelona Award 2024 for the Visual Arts. His exhibition Façana, Foto, Festa, Futur, Fideus, which recreated the transient nature of urban life in our Museum galleries, has been recognised ‘for the way it reassesses the forms and limits of the art of exhibiting, for understanding celebrations and popular culture as revolutionary events and acts of collective resistance, and for a visionary body of work that foresaw such relevant issues as the right to housing and the appropriation of the public space’.
On receiving the award at the Saló de Cent of Barcelona City Council, Colomer had this to say about the exhibition: ‘It was like a small city with squares and streets where one could get lost, meet strangers, wander around just as one does in a city and invent new ways of inhabiting it.’ Congratulations to the artist and to the MACBA team that made possible this award.
