Elements of a kind of total scenery
Jordi Colomer soon began to experiment with the possibilities of a type of sculpture that expanded into the fields of set design and architecture. Works from this period include 24 Goldfish inacabats (1991), Frase (Der Wachtturm) (1991) or El lloc i les coses (1996). Colomer incorporates a critical repertoire of objects and situations that show one of the interests that would keep coming up throughout his career: the questioning of the role and the position of the spectator in the exhibition space. With a certain minimalism, he incorporates poor, fragile and strangely familiar materials. From 1996 onwards, Colomer stars to use video as a medium and the next year presents his first video installation in a specially built site-specific screening room at MACBA, marking the beginning of a new creative moment.
