Connection and Creation

Day of Friendship 2026

When Benet Rossell, Jaume Xifra, Joan Rabascall and Miralda arrived in Paris in the late 1960s, they shared something more than the flight from a country where freedom was curtailed: they were actively pursuing the pleasure of discovery and working together. When, in 1970, the gallerist Marian Goodman asked artists such as Dan Graham, Joseph Kosuth, Sol LeWitt, Richard Long, Robert Morris and Andy Warhol, among others, if they wanted to participate in a group show that would fit inside a cardboard box, none of them hesitated. When Richard Hamilton invited his friend Dieter Roth to Cadaqués in the summer of 1977, they had already practised the extraordinary formula of complicity and joint creation. When, in 1984, the anonymous activists known as Guerrilla Girls displayed their first posters in New York denouncing the gender imbalance in museums, they were very clear that collective action is a key factor in guerrilla tactics. When, in 1991, the poets Rafael Metlikovez and Xavier Theros performed together for the first time at the Mirallet bar in Granollers, they had already created Accidents Polipoètics, convinced that poetry is enriched by humour and performance. Thus we could follow the MACBA Collection as a meeting place for artistic practice and friendship, a place where so many collaborations have been created through exchange and connection. From the MACBA Collection, we celebrate the Day of Friendship.

MACBA Thirty

We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for revision and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
