All UTOPIAS invite us to take Flight. Happy Saint Jordi’s Day!
Josep Ponsatí is known for his inflatable sculptures, in the form of monumental, aerial, ephemeral structures. He erected his first one in 1971 in the city of Granollers. It consisted of eleven yellow and white plastic modules, square in shape, forming a modular tower that rose to a height of around forty meters. A second inflatable object was set up in October 1971 at Cala de Sant Miquel, a bay on the island of Eivissa, during the congress of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). The third one was a more complex work made up of red triangular modules that was set up between June and August 1972, first at Cap de Creus and Cadaqués, and then at Benidorm. Finally, Ponsatí erected the Barcelona inflatables: at Montjuïc in 1977 and at Plaça de Catalunya in 1982. As Alexandre Cirici remarked, the physical aspect of these kinds of works is the least important, and what matters is the ritual, gesture and movement, and the participation of all those who collaborate in them. As in all collective celebrations. Happy Saint Jordi’s Day!

MACBA Thirty
We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for revision and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
