Richard Hamilton. Retrospective
MACBA and the Ludwig Museum in Cologne organised this retrospective survey of the work produced by Richard Hamilton from 1937 to 2002, which sought to synthesise the most representative elements of contemporary Western culture. The mechanisms that led Hamilton to be recognised as the father of Pop Art include the influence of Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Beuys and James Joyce, his tapping of sources such as consumer culture, leisure, advertising and art history, and his creation of an iconographic landscape by means of popular culture. The 346 works included in the catalogue are accompanied by a booklet published by MACBA containing Láslzó Glozer’s essay A Prismatic Visualization.
