Nuevas abstracciones

In the early nineties, abstract painting underwent a process of revaluation and redefinition within the art world. The MACBA exhibition New Abstract Paintings focused on the role of this process in late twentieth century contemporary art, with the participation of twenty-nine artists who shared a desire to explore the potential of painting based on a revisionist, critical discourse in regard to so-called ‘pure abstraction’. The catalogue includes texts by Enrique Juncosa, Arthur C. Danto and Demetrio Petroni, as well as the artists’ biographies and relevant bibliographies.
