Dieter Roth. Die Haut der Welt
Some artists produce their works while completely conscientious of the many ways in which the spectator could appropriate them. This is the case of German artist Dieter Roth, who enjoys sceptical audiences that demand that their expectations be met. His retrospective, organized by the Stuttgart Staatsgalerie was picked up by the MACBA and displayed in 2001. The show redeemed works in which the use of everyday materials such as chocolate, cheese and sugar are at once substance and meaning. In part it was, by reviewing his graphic works, visual poetry, paintings, sculptures, installations, etc., an homage to the artist who passed away in 1998. On the occasion of the retrospective, the museum published a brief treatise to go along with the catalogue which includes the study 'La pell del món' (The World’s Skin) by Ina Conzen, who also curated the exhibition.
