Book launch by Anke Bangma, book's editor* and Erick Beltrán, artist.
* Due last minute changes, Anke Bangma will not participate in this event.

To coincide with the exhibition Critical Episodes (1957-2011). MACBA Collection, the artist Erick Beltrán will present The World Explained. A Microhistorical Encyclopaedia, an artist's book that shares its name with one of the works by the artist that has recently been acquired by the Museum's Collection.

Divided into three exhibition projects that took place in Sao Paulo, Barcelona and Amsterdam, Beltrán interviewed a large number of people and gathered a collection of personal theories about all kinds of subjects. The project was inspired by micro-history, a cultural history genre that focuses on personal stories and supposedly minor events, creating a sketch of the culture or the mentality of a particular period. 'Our view of the world is not just determined by what we have learned about the world or even what we have actually experienced,' Beltrán explains. ‘It consists to a large extent of suppositions, makeshift connections and personal interpretations.'
