Activities as part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture
Looking at architecture through different eyes
As part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, and coinciding with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the museum, MACBA is to organise and host a set of activities exploring the crossover between contemporary art and architecture.
A programme of exhibitions, guided tours and seminars offer the chance to analyse how architecture influences artistic creativity, exhibition and experiences. We will explore the relationship between container and content, the interaction between artists and architecture and how architecture adapts to the latest practices, but also their historical, architectural and social dimensions.
These activities are part of the programme for Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, a distinction awarded by UNESCO and the International Union of Architects (UIA) to the city hosting the UIA World Congress of Architects, making it a global forum for architecture, urban planning and landscape design.

‘I wanted to do architecture, I wanted to dedicate myself to something that allows the external expression of creativity and, at the same time, offers a service to the community.’ We accompany Isabel Bachs, director of Architecture at MACBA until 2024, on a journey through her memories and experiences: from her origins and training through to her long career at the museum. A path marked by a passion for imagining places in which to meet, her admiration for art and rigour in her professional practice.
