Barcelona Thinks. Philosophy and sound art Barcelona Philosophy Festival
To coincide with World Philosophy Day, the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona has joined forces with other cultural institutions to organise a week of philosophy for everybody, with a programme of philosophical activities of all kinds. Conferences, exhibitions, book launches, colloquiums, lectures, philosophical aperitifs, concerts, film forums, and philosophy for kids, programmed in different sections and venues, will offer an opportunity to reflect on everything that interpellates us in our daily life, beyond clichés and stereotypes.
The aim of Barcelona Thinks is to place philosophy within everybody’s reach and to highlight its crucial role in the production and transmission of culture, based on a firm belief that philosophical thought is a common asset and should be available and useful to everybody.
MACBA participates in the festival by hosting a round table and intervention on the subject of sound art as an aesthetic experience and its social implications, with Carmen Pardo, Josep Cerdà and José Manuel Berenguer. The panel will focus on the production and creation of sound as an aesthetic experience, and explore the links between the creation of sound and the institutional context in which it is reproduced.

Carmen Pardo is a lecturer in Music History at the University of Girona, and part of the faculty of the Masters in Sound Art at the University of Barcelona.
Josep Cerdà lectures in Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and is Director of the Masters in Sound art at the University of Barcelona.
José Manuel Berenguer is a composer and founding member of Orquestra del Caos, and on the faculty of the Masters in Sound Art at the University of Barcelona.
