Sture Johannesson saw a number of his exhibitions cancelled. His irreverent use of cannabis plants in various museum spaces scandalised even the progressive society of his native Sweden. His large production of posters featured messages in which the happy psychedelic culture of the sixties was set against the forcefulness of advertising. Yet the power of those posters lay in their capacity to activate the future, with sentences such as Turn on the Institutions or Find Out Yourself and other invitations to take part in a changing society. In his message Welcome back! For Ann-Charlotte, dedicated to his partner and artist, we can also read: Take a trip.
