In November 1995, MACBA held its first exhibition: Fonds for a Collection 1. It featured the Museum’s new Collection, with a comprehensive selection of works from the different avantgardes, covering the 1930s to the 1990s. We would like to remember the first female artists to be included in the show: Hannah Collins, Susana Solano, Eva Lootz, Victoria Civera and María Luisa Fernández. Their sculptures, photographs and paintings are characterised by a slightly minimalist language, the use of basic materials such as smoke, wax, stones, lead and wire wool, and the aesthetics of the void.
