Tetsuo, Bound to Fail, 1998

Sergio Prego's video references the film Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989), whose protagonist is a cult figure of Japanese fantastic cinema. Here Prego appears as a decadent superhero flying over the suburbs of Bilbao. Realising actions based on such random elements as jumps, explosions and jets of water into the air, the artist arranges 40 cameras in a circle in order to capture his actions from different viewpoints. Editing the sequences and showing one take after another, visible situations seem to override the laws of physics.
