Triangle, simbologia de poder i mort, 1976/2020
Fina Miralles presented this action in November 1976 at the Museu de Mataró, as part of the ‘Per matar-ho’ cycle, which also included interventions by Jordi Benito and Ferran Garcia Sevilla. This is a work from the artist’s last Conceptual stage, between 1976 and 1978, when her opposition to the social and political situation of the Spanish Transition informed her work. Actively opposed to manipulation, violence and crime, she practised action art live. The body – whether that of the artist or an actor – was not a medium for formal research, but a field for conveying a message of social critique. Works such as Standard (1976), Triangle, simbologia de poder i mort (Triangle: Symbology of Power and Death, 1976) and Tres esquemes de mort artificial (Three Schemes for Artificial Death, 1977) belong to this moment. In the case of Triangle, simbologia de poder i mort, the reference to the pyramid structure points, in a direct way, to an abusive and unequal conception of power. With these actions, Miralles critiques the cruelty and abuse exerted on the animal world, the environment and women.
