Translations. Tree Woman [Documentation of the Performance Carried Out in November 1973 in Sant Llorenç del Munt, Spain], 1973
Photograph, 39 x 29 x 3 cm
Among the series of actions collectively titled Translacions, Fina Miralles made a fourth and final in November 1973 in Sant Llorenç del Munt. In Translacions. Dona-arbre, the artist became a moving object by burying herself up to her thighs and assuming the form of a planted tree. Although the first actions were a clear example of Land art, in this case the artist incorporated her body, pointing to Body art as a way of emphasising the natural condition of human beings, albeit with a certain lyricism.

The MACBA Collection features Catalan, Spanish and international art and, although it includes works from the 1920s onwards, its primary focus is on the period between the 1960s and the present.

I’d really like to think that the artist could be just another kind of material in the picture, working in collaboration with all the other materials.
