Metafísica y otros, 1971-1975
Produced between 1971 and 1975, this series of drawings distils Àngel Jové’s universe of ‘poor’ poetics. Preparatory drawings for projects that were never realised, they were made with felt-tip pens, biros, pencils and ink, with which Jové sketched out objects and sculptures, small scenographies and conceptual compositions. Some feature written instructions, all are dated and all indicate the materials with which he intended they should be produced. Comprised of quick strokes executed with a sense of immediacy, they bear similarities to certain works he had already produced in the early sixties that came close to a kitsch aesthetic. As can be seen from the drawings, he anticipated using fluorescents, patterns simulating marble or wood, golden balls and plush fabric. The works bring us close to the eclectic world of the artist and his critique of traditional artistic practice.
