Homenatge a l'arquitectura, 1975
Grup de Treball, active since 1973, disbanded in 1975. Franco’s death, on 20 November of that year, signalled the beginning of profound social and political changes in the country. Grup de Treball saw itself as a global platform to demand that the status of the artist be recognised in trade union terms and, to this aim, in March 1975 they called for a general assembly of the artistic sector. In April, Grup de Treball curated the exhibition Granollers, vila oberta, which put forward an analysis of the artistic situation in the town of Granollers, and was included in the show Homenatge a l’arquitectura.
Held from 25 April to 18 May at the Sala Picasso of the Col·legi d’Arquitectes in Barcelona, Homenatge a l’arquitectura was organised by the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura, to coincide with the celebrations of the ‘100 Promoció d’Arquitectes’. Over 100 people took part, including visual artists, art critics, writers, musicians and other intellectuals. Among them, Josep Guinovart, Oriol Bohigas, Josep Antoni Coderch, Modest Cuixart, Feito, Terenci Moix, J. V. Foix, Josep M. Mestres Quadreny, Xavier Montsalvatge, Oriol Tusquets and Grup de Treball.
During their intervention, Grup de Treball used the exhibition’s official poster as a support, on which they elaborated a conceptual diagram: through different concepts linked and connected by arrows following various logical relations, the group analysed their own participation in art competitions, while decoding and questioning the status of exhibitions as artistic institutions. With ‘ideas-fuerza’ (powerful ideas) such as, ‘Ideas for organising a cheap and profitable installation’, ‘Prestigious promoting group’ or ‘Attracting popular artists’, they staged a frontal attack on the organisational structures of the exhibition and their mechanisms for controlling artists.
