Reporting from São Paulo, I'm from the United States, 1998

Produced as the North American contribution to the 24th edition of the São Paulo Biennial in 1998, this performance adopts the form of television news reports, in collusion with a team from TV Cultura. These reports were to be broadcast nationally in a magazine programme, but due to the events taking place during the Biennial, such as national elections, local floods and the global economic crisis, they were never transmitted. These events afforded a dramatic context to the theme of the Biennial, which focused on anthropophagy or cannibalism. Assuming the role of journalist, Fraser relates this topic to the links between international art biennials, neo-colonialism and economic globalisation.
