Desembossadors blaus, 1974

Blue Plungers, 1974
Object, 3 elements: 12 c 28 cm c/u

Not only rags, buckets and plungers, but shoes, hats and cornets. Benet Ferrer reflects on the everyday object with components that faithfully reproduce reality, although with slight alterations or deformations. Habitual industrial production made with plastic, paper, metal, leather or textile has here been converted into ceramics. This simple shift in materials instantly puts into play the relationship between concept, object and function, while at the same time involving a contemporary renewal of ceramics’ traditional uses. Ferrer was a member of the Gallot art group in Sabadell, which in the 1960s advocated Action Painting, “until by chance I saw some pieces of ceramic that had a special degree of humanity, that had nothing to do with the kitschy ceramics I was used to seeing.”
