Kaenia II, 1972

Painting, 200.5 x 200.5 cm
In this painting, a female body exhibits a marked psychedelic aesthetic. Kaenia II condenses Zush’s dreamlike imaginary, in which artistic representation invites us to connect with other states of consciousness that go beyond reason. The use of colour, the fragmentation of elements and the multiple forms distributed over the surface of the canvas denote a way of understanding art as a means of direct access to the inner universe. Behind the work lie the artist’s experiences in Ibiza in the early seventies, when communal living, experiences with lysergic acid and a counter-cultural attitude determined the formal and ideological language of his work.
