Trained in multimedia at the Instituto de Artes of the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Tiago Mata Machado lives and works in Belo Horizonte. He is a film critic, exhibition curator, filmmaker and video artist. He has been a critic for O tempo and Folha de Sâo Paulo. As a filmmaker, his feature films have won awards at the Brasília Film Festival (2010) and the Berlinale (2011). As a video artist, since 2008 he has collaborated on various experimental videos with visual artist Cinthia Marcelle. Together with fellow video artist Joâo Dumans, the three created the production company Katásia Films, which focuses on the creation and study of film and art in Belo Horizonte. His works have been shown at international film festivals and art events such as the New Museum Triennial, New York (2011), Rochester Art Center (2012), Rotterdam International Film Festival (2013), Directors’ Week, Rio de Janeiro (2014), Havana Film Festival (2014), Biennale of the Moving Image, Geneva (2016), and NGO: Nothing Gets Organised, Johannesburg (2016). Together with Cinthia Marcelle, in 2017 he represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale.
