Amos Gitai: Home. A trilogy

As part of the 8th Annual Festival of Young Barcelonese Filmmakers the MACBA will show Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai's (Haifa, 1950) most recent film entitled News from Home/News from House, which debuted at the 2006 Berlinale. It is the last part in a trilogy, which began in 1980 with House and continued in 1998 with A House in Jerusalem. This year the Festival is focusing on the complex theme of "home;" its absence, presence, or distance, and the meaning that is has for different generations within different cultural contexts.

Gitai has explored the history of the Middle East and beyond through approximately forty documentary films, either fictional or historical, and his own personal story through themes such as country, exile, religion, social control, and utopia. He won the Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation's International Prize in the Stage Arts in 2004 "for his approach to social reality, first as a documentary filmmaker and then as a fiction moviemaker," for being "an artist who dedicates his time to producing art that serves the community," and for his "dedication to using cinematography to show his capacity for expressing his support of the idea that interculturality is a form of understanding between nations."
