Simon(e) Jaikiriuma Paetau is a Colombian-German interdisciplinary artist whose work spans video art, experimental film and performance, with a focus on decolonial themes and queer cultures. Her work is based on the creation of Latin American-inspired myths and utopias that challenge hegemonic discourses, developed in collaboration with historically marginalised communities. Her films have shown at documenta 14, Cannes Filmmakers Fortnight, MoMA, Rotterdam, BFI London and the New York Film Festival, receiving awards such as the 3sat Emerging Talent Award at Oberhausen 2022, Best Direction at the Cartagena Film Festival 2018 and a nomination for the Queer Palm at Cannes 2022. Her performance works and video installations have been presented at the Wexner Center of the Arts, Martin Gropius Bau, HKW, Monitoring Kasseler Dokfest, Studio Я at the Maxim Gorki Theatre, Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, Hebbel am Ufer, Cinemateca de Bogotá and the Berlin Biennale. In 2023 she held her first solo exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie - Museum of Modern Art Berlin. Since 2022, she has been the co-founder and artistic director of the transcultural laboratory Atelier Lapaetau.
