Paisanaje was born from the work of the Campo Adentro team at the CAR Centro de Acercamiento a lo Rural, and brings them together with other like-minded people from various different backgrounds (artists, curators, craftspeople, activists, etc.). It is an exploration and action group that approaches the eco-social crisis through art, practising alternative modes of imagination that move away from the idea of collapse and envision other possible, more hopeful futures. Its aim is to create an inner-city space of refuge and participative coexistence for all forms of life.
Paisanaje's work is articulated around different lines of action that address the climate crisis and are oriented towards fairer transitions. "Eating and Power" groups together all the practices and debates aimed at promoting food sovereignty; "Situated Essays" brings together those that investigate urban transitions; in "Making Knowledge" we recover traditional knowledge, and "Communal Luxury" is dedicated to the activation of possible imaginaries of the common and the celebration of collectivity. All of them are interrelated with many of their projects, thanks to the fact that they are always rooted in the practice of everyday life. That is why their actions are so diverse, from collective walks to the transformation of dairy products into yoghurts, cheeses and other derivatives, through to our communal meals, publications, workshops, meetings, celebrations and exhibitions.
Amelie Aranguren has been a member of Paisanaje since its foundation. Previously, she was part of Campo Adentro for 10 years. She has worked at institutions such as the Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Jeu de Paume (Paris) and the Fundación Federico García Lorca, and was also painter Miquel Barceló's assistant for five years.
